Saxon CD Review Thunderbolt Label Militia Guard/Silver LiningThis opening of “Olympus Rising” sets the tone for “Thunderbolt”, the records title track. With roaring rhythmic riffs, dauntless drums and the all empowering vocals, Saxon has delivered yet another five star rated Classic Heavy Metal album.

Always giving the fans what they crave, comes the spine-chilling organ intro to “Nosferatu (The Vampire’s Waltz). This track will have every horror enthusiast with their horns in the air. With the phenomenal fret work and voracious vocals, this tune is a hair-raising thriller for sure.

Skipping on to the “Sons of Odin” track, this song circles back to the tribute of Greek mythology. This muscular sound, shreds into the who, why and what of the various mentioned Gods.

Head-banging through to the ripping and raging of “Speed Merchants”, Scarratt and Quin’s harmonies had me mesmerized. I’m always mind blown over hellacious harmony.

The last but certainly not least song on the album is “Roadie’s Song”. What a killer way to show your appreciation for hard work. Saxon’s team must hold a special place within Biff and bandmates. This memorialization to the men and women of their crew damn sure gets two horns up from me!

Overall, Thunderbolt for me was a reach back to my youth when metal mayhem was at its very best. The no frills music that withstands the test of time!
