MTV Induced Phenomenon

Without a doubt, Cinderella was one of the true MTV induced phenomenon to arrive in the glamorous hard rocking ‘80s. Their debut album, the triple-platinum Night Songs, sold at a brisk rate of 50,000 copies a week for two straight months on the strength of its classic hit single “Nobody’s Fool.” In the course of a year, lead singer Tommy Keifer had gone from delivering film during the day to performing his own music before thousands at night. Cinderella would follow their debut with another triple Platinum effort, Long Cold Winter that featured four hit singles, including “Gypsy Road”, “Don’t Know What You Got (‘Til It’s Gone)”, ‘Coming Home” and “The Last Mile.”

Cinderella's third album, Heartbreak Station, was released in 1990. It featured more songs than Long Cold Winter and was heavily influenced by Keifer's love of the blues. Unfortunately, it failed to match the commercial success of its predecessors despite going platinum. In 1991, Keifer lost his voice due to a paresis of his vocal cords. He underwent several surgeries to repair a vocal cyst and hemorrhage. This added to delays in the recording of the band's fourth album, Still Climbing. It was finally released in 1994 but quickly disappeared from the charts. Mercury Records consequently dropped the band.

Tommy Keifer has continued to battle vocal chord problems over the years. The band’s original line-up remains intact with Kieffer on vocals and guitar; Jeff LeBar, guitar, Eric Brittingham, bass; and Fred Coury on drums. It has been 16 years since Cinderella released an album of new music.
