Reuniting For The First Time In 20 Years

When a major label signed a Hollywood-based band in the waning days of the hair and glam craze of the late ‘80s, nothing was certain. In fact, the group’s future in music could be summed up in a single line made famous by supermodel-turned-fashion guru Heidi Klum, on her show Project Runway. “One minute you’re in, the next you’re out.”

Pretty Boy Floyd filled the title role perfectly. After performing only nine standing room only shows, the band was IN – with MCA Records. Their 1989 debut, Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz was a success. Featuring the hit singles “Rock and Roll (Is Going to Set the Night on Fire)” and “I Wanna Be with You”, the album raced up the Billboard charts, becoming a staple on radio and MTV. Then problems surfaced. A Canadian band claimed they owned the copyright to Pretty Boy Floyd, (the courts ruled differently). The legal wrangling tied the group’s hands for precious months. Then it was the aborted European tour where the band was finding substantial success selling their album. And finally, grunge filtered down from Seattle to infect the entire music industry. Pretty Boy Floyd was OUT after one album.

Earlier this year, the original members of Pretty Boy Floyd decided to reunite for the first time in almost 20 years for a handful of select shows they’ll be filming for a DVD release later this year. South Texas Rockfest will be the first of only three stops for the group in 2008.
