Ratt - Rocklahoma 2008 - July 9-13
Kiss and Makeup
As the founder, lead singer, songwriter of the popular rock band RATT, Stephen Pearcy led his band to multi-platinum success and critical praise. Formed in Los Angeles from the remains of a former band in 1982, RATT was known for their flamboyant appearance and rebellious attitude. Atlantic Records recognized the band’s potential – i.e. their four-song EP sold over a million units for a tiny independent label – and signed RATT to a recording contract in 1984. The resulting album Out of the Cellar, contained their classic song, “Round and Round.”
During the band’s fifteen-year span with Pearcy as lead singer, RATT released eight albums, played over a thousand shows worldwide, and sold over 18 million albums. In 1992, RATT went on hiatus so band members could deal with personal issues – i.e. drug rehab – so Pearcy decided to create Arcade with Cinderella drummer Fred Coury. Five years later, Pearcy would rejoin his old band mates, only to leave them – again – two years later. The band replaced Pearcy with John Corabi, and he sued to stop the group from using the RATT name. He lost, and the following year, released his first solo recording, Social Intercourse. Both parties eventually kissed and made up, with Corabi coming on board as a guitarist. Oddly enough, Pearcy continues to tour as both a solo artist and with RATT.
