Vain - Rocklahoma 2008 - July 9-13

Too Little, Too Late

Timing never seemed to be on Davy Vain’s side. The Santa Rosa, California native migrated to San Francisco with his band after its formation in 1986. Unfortunately for Vain, the city’s main musical export at the time was thrash metal, led by the likes of Metallica, Exodus and Testament. When the group finally landed a major label deal with Island Records, company founder Chris Blackwell decided to sell the label to Polygram. Though Vain’s brilliant 1989 debut No Respect, won rave reviews from the press, it was too little, too late. In 1991, things took a turn for the worse when their label simply collapsed before it released the band’s sophomore release, All the Strangers. Shortly after the devastating news, Vain itself would soon disappear into record bin immortality.

Over the years, Davy Vain would keep himself busy doing production work with his songwriter friend Linda Perry (4 Non Blondes) on such hits as Christina Aguilera’s ”Beautiful” and Pink’s “Get the Party Started”. The bands’ current lineup includes original Vain members, Jamie Scott and Danny West on guitars, and the rhythm section featuring Louie Senor on drums and Ashley Mitchell. Their appearance at Rocklahoma will be their only show in North America.
